On the roof

On the roof

It’s amazing what you’ll find when you just look at unusual places. This micro ecosystem is atop the roof of the shelter at the Japanese Garden at Dawes Arboretum. The building is placed under many tall acorn trees so it gets varying amounts of shade and sun. Also throughout the day, when the wind blows, acorns and leaves fall down on it.

The moss is thick and covers the entire roof making for a beautiful carpet of green. I wonder what kind of creatures live in and around this small world?
