PictoWriMo Day 5

Todays theme: Soft natural light

Did you know that everyone has a soft box available to them? Yes, all you need is a window, blinds or a white sheet, and some daylight; then you have a natural light soft box ready for all your photographic needs. What’s really handy about this is that if you need shadow texture on your subject you can hang a lace fabric and boom, instant texture.

A few drawbacks do exist with this method however. You are limited to daylight hours only and since the sun travels through the sky you will have times of bright and dark light. To get a good exposure it may require you to either use a slow exposure and a tripod or bump up your ISO to eliminate camera shake if you don’t have a vibration control lens. Putting this slight unpredictability aside using a window for natural light shots is an excellent way to take product and portrait shots.
